Abstract
Exhibition Venue: Stills: Centre for Photography, Edinburgh, UK
Exhibition Dates: 25 October - 30 November 2024
Preview: Thursday 24 October (6-8pm)
Stills Salon is an exhibition presenting the work made in Stills's analogue and digital production facilities, showcasing work by local and international photographers, students, alumni of Stills school and by members of Stills staff and Volunteers.
'Stills Salon is an opportunity for Stills and our audiences to enjoy and celebrate the work that is being made by artists and photographers in our digital and analogue facilities. The open-call format has offered us the chance to see what is important to artists making work now, and how they are choosing to translate this into their practice.
Stills supports artists via our training and residency programmes, our lending library of photographic and theory books, and our digital and darkroom facilities. Our expert staff are on hand to help artists to plan, develop, experiment and complete new bodies of photographic and lens-based work.
During a period of intense financial instability in the arts in Scotland, it is essential that Stills and other organisations like it are supported and championed. Organisations like Stills allow us to see, hear and share what artists are thinking about now. By extension, our audiences benefit from the wide range of resources which only a charity like Stills can provide and expertly maintain. We believe that photography has a very special role in the arts, and that the arts have a very important role in the health and vibrancy of culture not only in Edinburgh and Scotland, but in Europe and throughout the world.
Stills is committed to ensuring continued access and opportunity for the practice and study of photography.
All work featured in Stills Salon is for sale, priced at the artists discretion.
Stills is supported by Creative Scotland, City of Edinburgh Council, Project Echo and The William Grant Foundation. Stills Salon is generously supported in-kind by Hahnemühle and Bellfield Brewery.'
