Abstract

By Invitation:

From the press release: ‘Taking a renewed look at the collection after fifteen years of acquisition the FDAC has developed a series of exhibitions based around the question of the human body, From its representation to its evocation, from its power as a symbol to its movement. The whole history of art - from the prehistoric Venus to the transformations of Orlan through the Olympia of Manet - shows how essential the human body is. The body is narrative, its representation and evocation are triggers for the imagination of the viewer. The human body asserts itself as a carrier of fictions, fictions all the more rich for the fact that each one going to meet them will create its own history, its own interpretation’.

Two exhibitions which featured my sculpture Telephone Conversation which is in the FDAC collection of Essonne, France. On February 11th 2015 the actor Bernard Chèze and the Quartet Buccal performed a musical tale based on the work as part of the exhibition programme. The Essonne departmental fund for contemporary art (FDAC) brings together nearly 300 works by French and international artists. Several are related to artistic residences undertaken to the Domaine de Chamarande. The history of the FDAC collection is intimately linked to that of the Domaine de Chamarande. From the beginning, Chamarande has established itself as a place of exhibition, shows and, simultaneously, of creation. The FDAC was progressively enriched thanks to acquisitions whose theme resonated with the Domaine. From 2008 onwards, an acquisition committee, made up of contemporary art professionals and representatives from the Essonne Department, made it possible to diversify the acquisition choices. Based in the Fabrique", built in 2012 in the Domaine de Chamarande by the architect Hervé Levaseux, the FDAC Essonne collection continues to grow.
