Abstract
Participatory art project output exhibited as part of the DJCAD RESEARCH EXPO 2023 an annual exhibition of outcomes of research projects by staff and PhD researchers from across the School of Art & Design. The primary exhibition took place in the North and South Galleries of the Mathew Building on Level 5.
my contribution to teh exhibition was; The Belfield Tile Project saw the production of a series of tiles designed and made by residents of the Bellfield Centre at Stirling Health and Care Village created between July 2022 January 2023 as part of my ongoing participatory art residency at the centre.
The Bellfield Centre provides intermediate health and social care for older people to learn (or re-learn) the skills they need to be independent. To support their work creatively, I produced a series of handmade tile blanks alongside a toolkit of simple stamps, including letters and shapes. The toolkit allows staff and residents with diverse cognitive and physical abilities to engage with their environment. It also stimulates their creativity and individual expression while working towards a collective output. The tiles will form part of a public art installation on the grounds of the Bellfield Centre in March 2024.
The project is an outcome of my ongoing exploration of co-production, and how activity can empower and enable expression and action while working directly with communities.
In collaboration with NHS Forth Valley, commissioned by Art Link Central.
