Abstract

The SPINE-COS-AYA project commenced in April 2021 and ended in August 2022. We successfully engaged with young people with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, parents, and health care professionals. In total, 40 semi-structured interviews were completed with stakeholders. Inductive content and thematic analysis were applied to transcripts which identified 10 key outcome areas: 1) Social outcomes; 2) Education and employment; 3) Quality of life; 4) Interaction with the health service; 5) Physical health outcomes; 6) Psychological wellbeing; 7) Communication; 8) Appearance; 9) Brace; 10) Surgery. Associated outcome domains for each outcome area were also specified for each stakeholder group. The Young Person Advisory Group reviewed the domains, producing a comprehensive and meaningful long list of outcome domains for spinal deformity treatment in adolescents and young adults.
