The Mystery of Dutch Raising

Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

A few English language books on silversmithing refer to Dutch raising. Very little however is known about this technique. The majority of historical reviews tend to address cultural influences and discuss form, surface treatment or decoration, but rarely talk about technique. This article reviews Dutch raising in books and amongst contemporary practitioners - outlining its value as an approach in practice, pedagogy and epistemology.
