Abstract
As we face a growing housing and homelessness crisis, this report reveals that there is more work to be done across Scotland if we are to end youth homelessness and fully implement our prevention pathways.
The report draws recommendations from a Scotland-wide survey, with over half of all Local Authorities sharing insight, showing us what support and services exist in both rural and urban areas. These results have been analysed to reveal some broader trends, with both improvements and concerning regressions.
The story of the data shows us that whilst strategic planning has increased, services are being cut and staff training is being reduced. Despite this, it appears that investment in core or crisis services remains, with Housing support available across Local Authorities. Yet it also highlights the passion and commitment of some Local Authorities to deliver innovative and results-driven services and support. And across the country there is a clear desire to make progress to address youth homelessness and embrace additional support to tackle this. This report hopes to re-inspire all stakeholders to make lasting change at both local and national levels.
