Abstract
By the end of 2025, many of the current read and publish agreements between UK universities (negotiated by Jisc) and the “Big Five” academic publishers (Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, and Sage) will expire. This is a key moment of opportunity (and risk) for reshaping how research is accessed, shared, and paid for in the UK.
This brief overview has been produced to give an understanding the negotiations and what the possible outcomes could mean for academia.
