Abstract

2023 marked the fifth year of our Public Engagement Evaluation Strategy, which we originally developed with the help of Evaluation Support Scotland. Over the last five years, we have rigorously recorded and evaluated hundreds of public engagement activities, from festival events and art-science exhibitions to online campaigns, and our strategy has ensured we captured both expected and unexpected impacts. Not only that but it has led us to be purposeful and thoughtful about the activities we do, using our limited resources effectively.

Aware that our work is always growing and evolving, we decided to revisit our Evaluation Strategy to ensure it was reflective of our priorities as well as those of the wider University. Going forward this strategy will continue to guide us as we work to embed public engagement within the University's research culture and ensure everyone taking part derives benefits from working with us.
